Eating Grief

March 1928.

It's been three weeks after Veronika's funeral. Irina has just bottle-fed and sleep peacefully on the bed, with pillows stacked around her like a fortress. Semyon know his baby girl won't awake for the next three hours. So he can sneak to the kitchen, for opening the secret stash of alcohol he had.

Wanted, Arrested

Just imagining if NKVD are bored enough and wants to capture my OCs.

Brief Sunshine

[1950, in a crowded cafe of Moscow]

"Vadka, is that you?"

Vadim startled when his name called. Nobody has dared to call like that except several person in his lifetime. He put down his cutlery, and lifted his head. A young woman in sleek black hair approached him, as she put down her plate with one course of meal. Her striking blue eyes connected with his deeply.

"...Who are you?" asked Vadim, trying to dig his memory once again.

"Zinka. Yeah, you may remembered me as teenager. And... maybe you forget me too, I understand..." sighed that woman.

"Zinka?" Vadim twitched his eyes. "Tell me if you are really her."

"Our oldest brother, Eduard, will always playing the song with his balalaika. Mark and I always playing ball outside. And you... I remembered you try to learn singing. Your voice is awful, but you are fast learner when Eduard taught you not to be tone deaf. After he went missing in war, you picked up that balalaika and learn further..."

Vadim's muscles relaxed slowly. He examines her face, realising that she is indeed his youngest sister. But he didn't stood up and hug her. He just... choose to pick up his cutlery and continued eating. She follows his movements too, and they are eating in silence.

Religion

I know religion usually the most absent thing whenever the story revolves in Soviet Union. But when remembering Alexandrov family are devoted Orthodox who has to hid their belief forever, I think religion is still worth to be explored among my OCs. Just as reminder that each people has their own religious (or non-religious) journey... but I'm not planning to make it as full personality since they still live in Soviet Union. Therefore, the list below was only based on my 2013 imagination that transliterated.

Nightmare Trap (But Relieving Too)

One night in Summer 1947, Dmitry had his deepest nightmare. In that nightmare, he was fueled by rage entirely. He destroys everyone on his sight, with the gun that has unlimited bullets. From the Wermacht soldiers, then fellow Soviet soldiers who tries to stop him. He entered Kremlin, and obliterate everyone there. Even his ruthless leader whom he afraid in real life is no exception.

Leftovers

"Of course, not all Soviets are truly grateful for the provided food. Whether from the cafeteria, from catering, from restaurants... even though they lived in the most scarce times."

Confession 6

1. Originally, Dmitry Petronov actually will use name "Anton". Therefore... Anton Petronov. But later I feel it will be too obvious that I was heavily inspired from Sergei Lukyanenko's novel that I was binge-reading in the past. I was also thinking for another names: Nikita, Alexander, Ivan, Mikhail, Vladimir... and all of them doesn't sound suitable for him. At the end, I use Dmitry name. And his surname was supposed to be Petrov, but I was not satisfied to only have 2 syllables surname. So... I made it up into Petronov.
Also, at first his origin was just a man from Stavropol. Yet after writing more and more... I realised that I have accidentally made Dmitry as descendant of her mother who was a doctor family family (Ostrucheskaya) and his father was a Chukchi who changed his identity to prevent discrimination during Russian Empire era. Yeah, pretty much ironic considering Vasily in old concept being racist to Chukchi lol.

Confession 5

My first OC to be created is Dmitry Petronov in 21 December 2010. However, Dmitry that written in this blog was very different from his prototype version that I wrote in 2011-2012. Let's say...
1. 2011 version of Dmitry was a cold jerk Russian who thinks love solves everything. And also somewhat pervert in public (ew, I know).
2. The other OCs are just cookie cutter with flat personality.

Mind you that 2010 me is literally 15 years old...

I only start to rework and develop Dmitry and other OCs at 2013, when I joined NaNoWriMo contest. I named the project not with name "Dmitry Petronov" but with proper title "Dark Tears in Red Music". Well, I didn't finish the novel fully as I was busy with university, but I am glad that I have developed a lot for each OCs who appeared in the novel draft.

Fatty

Oleg: "Look, that fatty fuck being bossy to us again"

Vasily: "Olya, you are fat too"

Oleg: "But Boris and Vladimir shall look lean as conductor. They are the heir of the ensemble!"

Semyon: "Correct! We can get fat, but we will have some shame because our conductor trying to keep image. and then we will make it work to get slim. but they get fat instead. I doubt everyone will be alive long with such condition. Losing legs, heart attack, broken bones..."

Stepan+Anatoli: "BRUH IT MEANS YOU WILL TOO"

Confession 4

Maxim and Andrei's dynamic was inspired from many sources.

Raindrops

[Autumn 1937]

The raindrops are pouring down heavily tonight. The lamps inside CSKA building slightly flickering due to unstable electrical wave. Most of Alexandrov Ensemble artists stayed in the building even after the work hours end - as they don't bring umbrella from home. In one of the rooms of this vast building has a large window, which showing the ferocious thunder and the rain barging down the glass. But it seems that doesn't scare five artists who sat nearby in circles.
